20 Gallon SPS and Zoo Tank and.... =)
20 gallon Universal tank from Global ($50) with two 1" holes drilledmag
5.5 gallon refugium with a 19w CF light and a MagDrive model 2 return pump
Set up tank [4-25-04]
It has been about 2 weeks since I got 88lbs of Tonga Kaelini rock and 5lb of live sand from Reefer Madness. The shape of the rock was great but overall I was not impressed with my $400 box of rock. I also added a check valve to the tank return line to prevent my fuge from overflowing and changed out the model 2 MagDrive for a model 3. I just got finished installing a 70 watt 10K MH in my CSL hood. All I need to do now is change out the acrylic with glass. [5-8-04] I went ahead and got some glass cut!
Well on 7/24/04 I broke down and ordered some zoos from Aquaticfrags.com unfortunately things were not packaged well and my prized $75 piece (Z11) arrived with NO water and another piece (P08) arrived with a major bacteria infection (it smelled really bad). It totally melted away. Needless to say, I was not happy with my $230 order! The other two pieces have done really good, especially a little $10 piece that I got. It is amazing how much being shipped in water helps =)
I bought two conchs at Aquatic Center for $5ea last week. They are doing a great job of keeping the sand clean. I went ahead an placed another online order today, this time with AquProp. I hope I have better luck. [8/7/04]
This past weekend I got some really nice stuff. I bought 10 more blue legged hermits from and a $40 red mushroom rock Aquatic center. I visited Aquarium Fish for the first time and got a nice zoo/yellow polyp rock for $30, a really cool polyp rock for $40, and a Unicorn Tang for $21 (plus 15% off and $10 discount). [8/10/04]
Everything is doing great! I got a nice piece of supper green Hypnopora at AC for $30 and a sm clam from City Pets for $39 [8/22/04]
Cut the blue ricordia in half, changed the 10K PC out for a 50/50, removed the legs from the hood, and removed the polyp rock that I bought from Aquarium fish. The polyps were starting to spread onto every rock. [6/28/04]
Brian at http://www.aquaprop.com came through for me again! I have never seen such colorful zoos. I got a orange ricordia for $30, pink for $10, and the killer zoo for $35 and $10 shipping!!!
Things are doing great! You can see the growth of the zoo photo below (it is spreading onto the base rock). [12/3/04]
I had my first real problem this weekend, my pink/silver got some type of infection and totally melted away within a little over 24 hours. I removed them and gave them a 5 min fresh water soak with 10% hydrogen peroxide. They are now in my refugium recovering. A different problem that is creeping up o me is red hair algae. It has been all oven my refugium for months and is starting to grow in my tank as well. I did one of my 1st water changes last week and think I will be doing more in the future. I purchased a new sponge and three see hairs from City Pets today. Time will tell if they help any. [12/28/04]
